PRACTICE EMPHASIS

As a result of Marvin’s extensive hands-on experience for a number of years in all facets of intellectual property matters, probably no practitioner has a better understanding of the best and most cost-effective manner of protecting and gaining the benefits of intellectual property assets.

An electrical engineer, Marvin participated in the development of electro-optical equipment for installation in aircraft and design and the initial development of solid-state computers.

As a lawyer, his experience includes preparing, prosecuting and granting of patent applications on a large variety of inventions ranging from sophisticated electronic and mechanical devices to ordinary kitchen gadgets. Additionally, he prepares, prosecutes and obtains trademark registrations, including appeals in the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office and engagement in patent interference and trademark oppositions. Marvin has also litigated many patent and trademark cases and has appeared as an expert witness and has personally been involved in many patent and trademark assignment and licensing agreements and has prepared a variety of confidentiality agreements.

As a result, he can advise and counsel clients on all aspects of their intellectual property concerns, especially the individual inventor and the small business proprietor regarding the best and most cost-effective avenues for protecting and to receiving the benefits of their intellectual property.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Former president of his professional association group the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA); former Chairman of the Board and of the Executive Committee of the Minnesota Division and Vice President of the Ramsey County Chapter of the American Cancer Society; former member of the Ethics Committee of the Ramsey County Bar Association; founding member of the Ronald McDonald House in Minnesota; and former Commander of his war veterans post.

Education

Marvin obtained his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law and an Electrical Engineering Degree (BEE) from the University of Minnesota.

Admissions

He is a member of the Minnesota State Bar; the U.S. District Court of Minnesota; the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit; the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  He is a registered attorney in the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office.
